Welcome to St. Helen’s Church of England (VA) Primary School website. We are hope that you find our site to be both useful and informative.

We are proud to be a Church of England School, and an integral part of our community.  There has been a school in Abbotsham since 1851 providing education for the children of the village.  In 1957 Abbotsham School amalgamated with the neighbouring parish school of Alwington, and St. Helen’s became the school for both areas.  The current school building was opened in 2004.

St. Helen’s is a Voluntary Aided Church School we have a governing body with a majority of members appointed by the Church. They are called the ‘Foundation Governors’. As you can see from the list other bodies appoint governors too.  As a body the governors are committed to seeking the best for your children.

We have a happy school environment in which children learn that courtesy, good manners and consideration for others are important and valued qualities. We think of our school as a family – children, parents, staff, governors and friends – and we look forward to welcoming you.

Mission Statement

We believe that education should be a journey that fosters a love of learning, where every child is supported and challenged to achieve their full potential. At St. Helen’s we aim to create a respectful and caring environment based on Christian values as exemplified in the ‘Every Child Matters to God’ agenda, through which we encourage children to grow spiritually and become independent learners.

We endeavour to provide rich and diverse experiences that enable all children to develop a deep social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness. We aspire for our children to become individuals who are well equipped to become responsible citizens of the future.

Curriculum Statement

We firmly believe that all children have the right to a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum which provides continuity and progression and takes individual differences into account. We are very proud that pupils at St. Helen’s School have very good academic levels of achievement at the end of both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The Christian ethos of the school ensures that staff work together to create a supportive, secure environment where children are valued, nurtured and able to thrive. Our high levels of attendance ensure that all children are able to reap the benefits of the rich experiences that we offer.
