Dear Parents and Carers,
A very warm welcome back to St. Helen’s and a happy new year to you all.
The children have all come in to school smiling this morning, and have settled well to their learning. A special welcome to our new families and children, we hope your children will be very happy here at St. Helen’s.
We have got some fantastic experiences planned for the children this half term, including visits from the Space Dome, reptile and insect talks from Exmoor Zoo and an Epiphany Service for the chidren that will take place in school, led by Fr. Richard Mausdley.
Walking around the school this morning I was delighted to see a French café in Class 6 and a draw bridge entrance to Class 1; the teachers have all been busy planning really engaging and motivating hooks into their topics. We welcome Mrs. Jenna Speed to the school. Mrs. Speed is undertaking one of her final teaching placements at St. Helen’s, and will be based in Class 2, working along Mrs. Northcott.
I am delighted to see the large number of Year 6 children who have taken up the additional maths booster sessions that will run after school on a Tuesday between now and May. These sessions are designed to further support the children’s acquisition of the level of skills required under the new National Curriculum. Don’t forget, if you have not yet used IXL, our new online maths learning scheme, please do log on as it is great fun, and we have had some fantastic feedback from the children! Usernames and passwords can be found in the children’s blue reading diary/homework log.
My very best wishes for 2015.
Mrs. Zoe Batten
