Procedure for closure of school due to severe weather

We would like to update you as to our procedures for school closure in the event of extreme weather.

Any decision to close the school will be made by the Local School Committee and the Headteacher, based upon consultation with a Local School Committee member and an Alumnis Director who live in the village, and the school caretaker. This decision will be informed by weather conditions in the area and an assurance that sufficient staff can travel to school safely, in order to maintain appropriate staffing levels.

Please do not assume that school will be closed in the event of snow.

In the event of extreme weather you will be contacted by text and email by 07:30 advise you as to whether the school will be open or closed. If you cannot be contacted by text or email please dial the school number, 01237 475276, and listen to the outgoing message on the school answer phone advising you of the decision.

Please be aware that in the event of snow and/or ice Breakfast Club will NOT open on Health & Safety grounds, as the school must provide sufficient caretaking time to enable the entrances to school to be gritted, in order to maintain safe passage into school for all members of the school community.

Closure information will also be available through updates and bulletins on the local BBC and Heart FM radio stations, and will be posted on the homepage of the school website.

The Devon County Council website also displays a live list of schools which are fully or partially closed. Go to
